I am pleased to announce that Zac Hicks’ setting of Psalm 100, “All People That on Earth Do Dwell,” has won the Church of the Servant 2010 New Psalm Contest.

With 64 submissions from all over the world and in all musical styles, the judges had a difficult task. However, Zac Hicks joyous musical setting of William Kethe’s text kept rising to the top, with the judges describing it as “easy to sing,” “rhythmically delightful,” and “fresh.” The combination of historic text and new music is a fitting choice for a contest that aims to foster the ancient tradition of Psalm singing in today’s churches.

The song will be premiered in worship at COS on January 30, 2011. A final edition of the winning song will be made available here at the COS website or at Mr. Hicks’ website: http://www.zachicks.com/.

Congratulations to Zac, heartfelt appreciation to the judges, and many thanks to all who submitted Psalm songs. We look forward to singing this new song to the Lord!
