Welcome Home: Mission Accomplished
May 27, 2022
What started as a bold idea—to raise enough money to buy a neighboring home and establish it as transitional housing for refugees—has resulted in gifts and pledges totaling more than $400,000! By God’s grace and with the remarkable generosity of members, friends, and acquaintances of Church of the Servant, we have exceeded our fundraising goal. And we got there ahead of schedule. Thanks be to God!
Over the summer, a team will be working on minor renovations and updates to the home. The congregation will have a chance to walk through the house once it’s ready to begin its next chapter—as a home of welcome and hope for refugee families resettling in Grand Rapids. As for the funds that exceed the cost of the home and renovations, the church council will honor the intent of the donors as it carefully stewards that surplus.
To all who pledged and gave and prayed and helped solicit funds, a heartfelt thank-you from the COS council and the Welcome Home campaign team. Thank you for catching the vision, for standing with refugees, and for affirming this project as a way to show Christ’s love to our neighbors and deepen our life together as we approach our 50th anniversary as a congregation.
