COS has a rich tradition of wrapping our church family in visual reminders of the liturgical seasons. As we journey through Lent and continue our worship via zoom, ministry leaders at COS want to invite you to create a simple visual reminder of this season (Lent) and our theme (Remembering Our Baptismal Identity) for your home: a drop of water cut from black paper. This drop of water could be placed on your dining table throughout the week or simply placed under a candle that you light for our weekly worship services. The hope is that this simple shape will serve to remind you throughout Lent of your identity as beloved by God.
As we approach Easter, all of you will be encouraged to decorate your black drop of water with bright colors to symbolize the new life that comes through our baptism and resurrection in Christ. For those of you who are able and willing, we will encourage you to drop off your decorated drops of water at church prior to Easter so that our 9th grade girls and their small group leaders (Julie Tatko and Vanessa Elliot) can gather all these brightly decorated drops and create an artistic display.
COS will have black paper available by our main entrance throughout Lent so stop by to pick some up, if needed.
“That’s what baptism into the life of Jesus means. When we are lowered into the water, it is like the burial of Jesus; when we are raised up out of the water, it is like the resurrection of Jesus. Each of us is raised into a light-filled world by our Father so that we can see where we’re going in our new grace-sovereign country.”
