Trinity Season, Week of Sunday, October 4, 2020

On Sunday, October 4, we will continue to worship in homes, individually, but still as one body as we seek to be prisms of God’s light in liturgy and in life. This week Rev. Karen Campbell will bring us a message based on the scriptures of Isaiah 25:1-9 and Phil. 3:17-4:1.

Resources, videos, and liturgies can be found on the Church of the Servant website at

Vesper service — On Sunday evening, October 4 at 6pm, please join our outdoor service. In case of inclement weather, please check the website before the service for updates on cancellations/rain date arrangements. These outdoor services are in addition to our 10 am Sunday morning Zoom services. This will be a 30-minute Vesper-inspired service in the courtyard. Pastor Andrew Mead will lead us in a meditation on Matt. 6:16-18.

Some notes about the service:

  • To encourage social distancing and safety, the service is limited to 100 participants. Some spots are already reserved for members requiring technical assistance, so don’t delay in registering for your spots!
  • Masks will be required when entering and exiting the area but may be removed while in the circles.
  • Singing is allowed, but masks will be required while singing.
  • Children are welcome, and there will be children’s programming available.
  • Please bring your own chair. If you are not able to bring a chair, please indicate on the form and a chair will be provided.
  • When coming to the service, please park on the west end of the COS parking lot and enter the courtyard using the sidewalk along the west side of the building.

As we work together to hold these services as safely as possible, we encourage everyone to extend grace during this process. Staff, leadership, and the COVID response team will assess how things go, and listen to feedback, to help facilitate the most possible participation.

Friendship ESL at COS completed a third week, with four classes meeting four times each week.  Student numbers are thinner than last autumn, but starting slow is best for everyone.

Last week was indoors, with temp tests, Covid questions, masks, distancing, sanitizing.  We aim to keep the virus at bay.

Want to join the tutor corps?  We need you.  Some tutors are working the double-shift.  Some classes are uncovered.  It’s rebuilding-time all around.  Write me, call me.    — Mark Fackler, coordinator

Angel Tree is coming!  It will be virtual of course, but our Prisoners in Christ team will be giving the children of prisoners presents in the form of gift cards, sent virtually by Prison Fellowship.  We have asked for 10 children and will need to raise $220 to do this.  If we raise more, we can give to more children.    These will be local children and we intend to follow up with their families.  If we raise more, we will put it in our Angel Tree fund so we can help send Angel Tree children to Camp Tall Turf when that becomes possible again.  So Christmas shopping starts now for Angel Tree.  Please send donations to COS and mark them as “Angel Tree.”  Any questions?  Contact Lucie Marsden.

Save the date!  Our fall Work Day will be Monday, October 19th from 4pm to 7pm.  The rain date will be the following week Monday.
