Happening This Sunday
The new members’ class meets for the final time in the living room at 9am.
You are invited to give thanks in worship at 10am, this Thursday, November 28 at our annual Thanksgiving Day service. There will be an opportunity for brief individual testimonies of thanks during our worship time.
The COS deacons invite you to give generously to our Thanksgiving offering so we can support Coit Community CRC, a light in the city to those affected by crime and incarceration, as mentors and active members of the Parent Community Organization at Coit School, through “The ROCK” (Reaching Others for Christ’s Kingdom), and at a new GVSU Apartment complex on Lafayette and Trowbridge NE. Checks made out to “COS” with “Thanksgiving Offering” on the memo line may be brought to the COS church office or put in the offering plates anytime between now and Thurs. Nov. 28, (Thanksgiving Day, 10 am) when Pastor Burton and members of Coit Church will worship with us here at COS.
Thanksgiving Day Djembes – Anyone who would like to play djembe is invited to participate in the opening song in the Thanksgiving Day service. We will rehearse again on Thursday, November 28 at 9:45 am, just before the service. Even if you have never played before, you are welcome to give it a try. Please either sign up in the music room or email Maria Stapert (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Thanksgiving Day Joyful Noise Orchestra – Anyone who plays a band or orchestral instrument is invited to play for our Thanksgiving Day service on Thursday, Nov. 28 at 10 am. We will rehearse on Thursday, Nov. 28 at 9 am before the service. We need experienced musicians too, but this service is an especially good service for beginners to get their feet wet since the amount of music is less overwhelming than a regular Sunday service. If you have never played with the group before, I encourage you to give it a try! The music is ready to be picked up in the music room this week. Please sign up in the music room when you pick up your music or email Maria Stapert (email@example.com) so that we know to plan on you

A Gathering for COS folks who have attended a 2.5 day Understanding Racism Workshop: The COS Antiracism Team is offering an opportunity to deepen our roots for understanding racism. Come on Sunday, December 8 from 12:30-2:45pm at Church of the Servant to Room 5, after the COS Christmas Brunch. The COS Antiracism Team has again invited Mark Mulder to share his insights with us. Mark is a professor of Sociology at Calvin University and is a member of Sherman Street Church. Using insights from social science, Mark will help us think about community engagement, civic engagement, and how congregations play a vital role. We think this will be a good opportunity for us to think more deeply about being a good neighbor.
Thank you to those who have signed up to buy a gift for Angel Tree. If you are planning on attending the party at COS on Sat. Dec. 7, 2-4pm and have questions contact Lucie Marsden.
