Happening This Sunday
The Art Changeover team could use your help this Sunday! At noon, following the morning services, we are changing over the art in the large worship space from Epiphany to Lent. Removing the stars from the steel tree requires several sets of hands, and the High School Youth Retreat has taken away our usual pool of volunteer helpers. If you are able and willing to stick around to help, we would greatly appreciate it!
Next Sunday March 1 at 9am is Intergenerational Sunday School. At 10am our worship time will be a Prism service in the large sanctuary where we will have a combined worship with The Basic English and Standard English families.
RETIREMENT PARTY MARCH 1! Please join us on Sunday, March 1, right after the service, for a potluck lunch and a time to say thank you to Ellen for her 26 years of service to COS. There are instructions in your mailbox for food to bring—we certainly must have enough food for this shindig! The deadline to contribute for a gift for Ellen is February 28. And there is a basket for cards on the welcome table. See you there!
HS Sunday School does not meet today Feb. 23 due to the youth retreat. Middle School: No WNL this week
The Thursday Bible study on Jonah meets this week on February 27, in the café area, 9:30-11am. This week’s lesson; Jonah 4, Luke 15: 11 – 32—God’s Ongoing Mercy.
Our next blood drive is 3 weeks away. Please mark your calendar for Monday, March 16, 2-7pm. You can make an appointment now online at versiti.org/michiganor in a few weeks here in our cafe. Thanks for considering sharing your gift of life!
Everyone is invited to our Ash Wednesday worship service this Wednesday, February 26 at 7pm in the Large Sanctuary. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lenten renewal when we meditate on our mortality and need for a Savior, renew our commitment to daily repentance, and remember with confidence that Christ has conquered death and sin. The service will conclude with the imposition of ashes, a symbol of our fragility, death, and repentance.
Financial Update: Last week’s offering and online giving was $11,955.28. Our total giving for the month of February is $71,148.35 (with 1 Sunday left). Our monthly General Fund budget is $119,028.
LITURGICAL DANCERS – Rehearsals for Lent will be held Thursday, February 27, at 7PM and Saturday, February 29, at 10AM. Dancers 5 and up are welcome to join us for Agnus Dei (O Christ the Lamb of God) however parents should be aware that this is after the children are dismissed for Children’s Worship so dancers would need to be brought back to the service to dance.
Please join us on Sunday March 8th after the services for our second COS Songfest gathering! It will begin with a Friends of New Americans lunch followed by the music program which will begin at 2:00pm. Our Songfest program will highlight the inter-cultural nature of the global Body of Christ as we experience it among our fellowship here at COS! COS members from both services are encouraged to sign-up to present a song offering with the intent of featuring songs of worship on our hearts in the multitude of languages spoken by our COS members.
March Gallery Opening Event with Featured Artist Erick Picardo – Mark your calendars for Monday, March. 9 @ 7pm for a very special gallery opening event combining speech, drumming, and visual art! Erick Picardo is a Grand Rapids based Caribbean Artist known for his bright, colorful paintings, ranging in size from small scale canvases to large scale murals. The event is free with a suggested donation of $5/person. The evening will feature a conversation with the artist, music, and a chance to peruse the gallery over appetizers.
