Happening This Sunday
This Sunday in our large sanctuary worship service we take joy in witnessing the affirmation of baptism of Lindsey Stinton and Pieter Boer. Immediately following the worship service there will be a brief congregational meeting for the purpose of electing elders and deacons and approval of our proposed budget.
Elder nominees are: Duane Heeringa, Hannah Kummer, Margaret Mwenda, Nancy Pranger, and Bill Vriesema
Deacon nominees are: Kristin Lee, Stacey Steen, Jon Vandervelde, Carol Rienstra and Marji Voetberg. Biographies are available on the COS members page of the website under the heading of Council, and limited print copies are available on the café counter. Signed absentee ballots must be submitted by 9:50am today and are available in the café area.
The Church of the Servant 2019-2010 proposed budget has been distributed via email and is also available on the COS website. You can find some hard copies of the proposed budget summary on the café counter, and there are also some copies of the proposed budget detail available in the church office.
NOW IS THE TIME TO PLAN TO PUT BIBLE STUDY INTO YOUR LIFE! Thursday mornings, STARTING SEPTEMBER 19, from 9:30 to 11:00 am, in the COS cafe area. We will be studying I Corinthians. Everyone is welcome, childcare is provided.
Mentors and Mentoring Ministry Coordinator: Church of the Servant, Crossway Community Church, St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, and Immanuel Reformed Church have partnered together to provide mentors to students at Ridge Park Charter Academy. Mentors meet with students on a weekly basis during the school year to building a supportive relationship and tutor them with school work. Pam Plantinga is currently the COS coordinator.
There is also a coordinator that serves as the liaison between RPCA and the churches, connects mentors with students, and ensures the school’s paperwork are completed. A member from Immanuel had been the overall coordinator for this ministry but now feels led into other ministry. We are looking for someone to step into this role. Training will be provided. Will you consider serving Jesus in this role?
ESL tutors needed. We open September 10, yet five classes do not have a tutor. Please consider this important outreach. See Mark today. He is looking for you! We also need a snack prep specialist! Tues/Thursday evenings for one hour, 6:30-7:30pm.
Needed- Additional drivers and substitute drivers of minivans to be on a schedule to pick up our new American families and bring them to the BES worship on Sunday morning at 10am. Please call or email Jon Bruss, the new volunteer transportation coordinator.
Our blood drive is tomorrow, Monday, 8/26, 2-7pm. There is still time to sign up to share your gift of life! You will literally be a lifesaver – there is no synthetic substitute for human blood, and the need is so great! Make an appointment by calling 866-642-5663, or visit versiti.org, or sign up today on the poster in the café. Hope to see you tomorrow! –Co-chairs Beth Karanicola and Ruth Huisman
Worship Committee is seeking a few good people to share the task of checking each week as to whether the communion table tablecloth and minister’s vestments need to be laundered. Having several people on our list will give each volunteer a great deal of scheduling flexibility. Thanks for considering this!
See the Schoofs. Sam and Elizabeth Schoofs and their girls will be meeting friends on Sunday afternoon, 3-6pm at the home of Janis and Joel Carpenter. The Schoofs are on an extended home visit from their work in Chad among the Goran people. Come and visit with the Schoofs and learn more about their lives in an amazing part of the world.
It’s that time again! The much loved and awaited Volunteer Duty Roster is in the mailboxes of those who are scheduled for this rotation. The new schedule for coffee serving, communion elements and nursery begins September 8, so please check your mailbox to see if you’re on the list this time around. As always, if you need to make a change, please let Diane Jonker know so we can be assured that these important ways of serving are being covered. (firstname.lastname@example.org or 956-6711) You may also access the new schedule on the members portal of the COS website.
Our giving for this week totaled $23,586.11 (with weekly online giving). Our current giving for the month of August is $71,666.55 .
