A Panel Discussion with LGBT Calvin Students and Recent Alumni on The Church and its Ministry to LGBT Youth

Moderated by Rev. Jim Lucas

Thursday, May 3 from 7:30- 9 pm at Church of the Servant.

How is the church doing when it comes to ministering to its own LGBT youth? Why are so many LGBT young people leaving the CRC and finding spiritual homes in other denominations—or in no church at all? In this panel discussion, five young people who identify as gender minorities will share their experiences wrestling with faith and sexuality as they grew up in Christian homes and attended (or still are attending) Calvin College. They will talk about where their journeys with faith and sexuality have led them.

If you have a concern for ministering to all of the church’s youth, you will find this evening to be a valuable, eye-opening experience.

Rev. Lucas, panel moderator, is the founder and chaplain of GIFT Grand Rapids, a faith-based ministry to the LGBT community, with a focus on young people who are dealing with issues of faith and sexuality. A former Christian Reformed Church pastor, Rev. Lucas is now ordained in the United Church of Christ. In addition to volunteering as GIFT’s chaplain, Rev. Lucas serves as a staff chaplain for Spectrum Health.

This event will not be recorded or live streamed!
