This Sunday Josh Baron will preach on Rev 2:8-11, in which the Church of Smyrna is encouraged to be faithful in the face of coming persecution. For our Psalm, we’ll sing Psalm 9, in which God is asked to snare the wicked in their own traps. Difficult stuff, but appropriate to complement a New Testament reading about the persecution of the saints. On the same theme, the sermon will conclude with the beautiful Punjabi Psalm 61, “Saranam,” a song that cries out to God, our Rock and Refuge. We’ll continue our Lenten Song of the Season with a folkish “Jesus, Lover of My Soul” written by Greg Thompson of Indelible Grace. You can warm up for Sunday’s service by reading Rev 2:8-11 and Psalm 9, praying for those around the world who are persecuted for their faith. If you were to memorize the words of “Jesus, Lover of My Soul” by the end of Lent, it would serve you well in years to come. –Greg Scheer
