Small Groups
Helping you find your place
We seek to welcome all people at Church of the Servant into an open, caring, and accepting community that promotes growth in Christ. Whether you’re a visitor or longtime member, you’ll find multiple ways to link up with likeminded people as we walk together on the road of Christian discipleship. Here some opportunities to explore:
Households
Households are small groups that meet regularly for study, prayer, support, and fellowship. Because much of the pastoral ministry of the church happens in these groups, every COS member is encouraged to become part of a household. To join a household, call Janice McWhertor, minister of congregational life, 956-7611 x22.
Wednesday Evenings
Three Wednesday evenings a month during the school year, members gather for dinner in the fellowship space. After the meal, many activities are offered, including Girls’ Club, Cadets (for boys), and book/Bible discussions for adults. For more information, call the church office, 956-7611.
Thursday Morning Bible Study
Throughout the school year, a group of members and guests meets Thursday mornings from 9:30-11 for in-depth Bible study. Study material is provided, and anyone is welcome to join. Childcare is offered. For more information, call the church office, 956-7611.
Friday Morning Women’s Group
This weekly gathering of COS women offers opportunities for study, prayer, support, and fellowship. The group meets in the Youth Room on Fridays at 9:30 am. Childcare is provided, and newcomers are always welcome. For more information, call the church office, 956-7611.
Friday Morning Prayer Group
Fridays from 10-11 am, people gather to pray for the church ministries, the people of the church, and concerns of the community and world. Childcare is provided. For more information, call the church office, 956-7611.
First Friday Friends
This movie club for single women and men over 40 meets the first Friday of every month. The movie, time, and theater are selected mid-week, and after watching together, the group meets to discuss the film. If you love movies and would like to be put on the email or phone notification list, please call the church office, 956-7611.
Men’s Prayer and Bible Study
A group of men gathers Saturday mornings from 8-9 am. New participants are always welcome; coffee and doughnuts are provided. For more information, call the church office, 956-7611.
60s & Over Fellowship
Focusing on the interests and concerns of people ages 60 and over, this group organizes seasonal dinners, brings meals to those with health problems, and enjoys fun and fellowship. For more information, call the church office, 956-7611.
GROW: A Young Adult Fellowship
Gathering friendships - Renewing our faith – Opening doors - Widening our hearts
GROW is a way to meet new people, find your place in the life and ministries of COS, and deepen your faith through fellowship, service, and study. GROW is for young adults in their 20s, 30s and beyond – singles, couples, members, visitors, and others who are seeking meaningful connection at Church of the Servant. Look for announcements about events and opportunities in the weekly bulletin.
Dunamis Course
If you’d like to learn more about the Holy Spirit or want to grow in your ability to serve as a witness of Jesus Christ, consider taking the Dunamis course. This is a 10-week series involving video, discussion, and prayer times. To learn more about the course or schedule, call the church office, 956-7611.
Marriage Course
Periodically, COS offers a practical six-week opportunity for married couples to reflect on and nurture their marriage. Dinner is served at the first session. There is no group discussion – all conversation about marriage occurs between the husband and wife. Call the church office (956-7611) for information on the next course.
Marriage Preparation
To help our members and regular attenders prepare for marriage, we offer a three-session counseling time with the minister of congregational life and one or two sessions with our senior pastor. For more information, contact the church office, 956-7611.
Summer Softball
Every spring, softball teams are put together for a summer season of games played at the Christian Reformed Recreation Center on 36th St. at Shaffer Ave. SE. There are middle school, high school, women’s, men’s, and coed teams. For more information, contact Ellen Westrate at the church, 956-7611.
